Demon Slayer Movie Trilogy Begins With Infinity Castle This September

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle

As you might’ve heard, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is pivoting from an episodic television anime to a series of theatrical movies for the adaption of its final arc. We can only speculate why, but we’d guess the fact that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was the highest-grossing anime movie of all time might have swayed the decision.

The plan, Crunchyroll said today, is to release three movies, the first of which will be called Infinity Castle and given a staggered release schedule across the world. In the US, we’re getting it September 11 along with over fifty other countries.

Demon Slayer has been a phenomenal franchise, and we at Crunchyroll are delighted to have been a part of it from the beginning,” says Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini. “Crunchyroll is thrilled to be able to bring this trilogy of films to fans, on the big screen, and it promises to be one of the truly epic and consequential pop cultural events of our time when it hits theaters.”

As for the events of the film, only those who have read the manga know what’s about to happen, but Crunchyroll offered this synopsis: “With the head of the Demon Corps in danger, Tanjiro and the Hashira rush to the headquarters but are plunged into a deep descent to a mysterious space by the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji. The destination of where Tanjiro and Demon Slayer Corps have fallen is the demons’ stronghold – the Infinity Castle. And so, the battleground is set as the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons ignites.”

As a whole, Demon Slayer is about Tanjiro Kamado, a young man whose sister is tragically turned into a demon after his family is attacked by one. Seeking vengeance and a cure, he joins an organization dedicated to hunting down demons called the Demon Slayer Corps. Perhaps he might want to rethink the whole cure thing — Nezuko’s abilties have saved his life on more than one occasion (though I’m sure he’d like to be able to have a conversation with her again).

If you’re disappointed that it’s all movies from this point, well, Mugen Train was turned into a series of episodes so there’s no reason Infinity Castle couldn’t be as well. Crunchyroll hasn’t spoken of such plans yet, though. Check out the full release list, poster and new teaser below, and prepare for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle this fall.
