Just a month after renewing the Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and American Dad for four additional seasons, Fox has announced they are renewing several of their animated series for additional seasons.
Grimsburg, an animated sitcom featuring John Hamm as a detective struggling with his family life, is currently airing its second season, with twenty episodes having aired since the series debuted January 7, 2024. Its first season was 13 episodes, and Fox’s loaded animation lineup likely ensures a similar episode count for the second and third seasons. Rachel Dratch, Alan Tudyk, Erinn Hayes, Greg Chun, and Kevin Michael Richardson also star in this series.
Universal Basic Guys has received an order for a third season, ahead of the second season even beginning to air. This series debuted September 8, 2024 and features two former factory workers who were laid off and placed in a Universal Basic Income program, finding ways to occupy their time. A 13 episode first season has aired, and a second has just been announced. Adam Malamut, Ally Maki, Talia Genevieve, and Fred Armisen star in this series.
Krapopolis has also been renewed for additional seasons. This series is an animated sitcom set in the world of Greek mythology. It has run with longer seasons than Universal Basic Guys and Grimsburg thus far, with a 23 episode first season having run from September 24, 2023-May 19, 2024 and a 22 episode second season which began airing September 29, 2024 and will be concluding on May 18. Two episodes remain to be aired for season 2, but the network is planning far ahead and has ordered up through season five with the latest announcement. This series star Richard Ayoade, Hannah Waddingham, and Matt Berry.
Still unclear is the fate of The Great North. Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate and Will Forte star in a series about a family living in Lone Moose Alaska. This series is on its fifth season, and Fox has yet to decide on its fate. Recently, when interviewed after the renewals of Family Guy, the Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers and the return of American Dad to Fox, Disney Television Studios president Eric Schrier said “I don’t think Fox has made a final determination on it; it’s another show that we really love. It’d be great for it to continue, but I understand if they’re not able to.” On the question of moving the show to Hulu, he stated “I’d have to look at the performance, I haven’t looked at that recently, and I’d have to talk to the partners I have at Hulu about it, we’d have to see if it makes sense. We like the current relationship but ultimately, the core shows are these four core shows.“
With so many ongoing shows, Fox is running new episodes into the summer, and even branching out from the traditional Sunday slots of Animation Domination. Beginning Thursday May 29, Fox will air
8:00-8:30 PM — Bob’s Burgers (All-New Episode)
8:30-9:00 PM — Grimsburg (All-New Episode)
9:00-9:30 PM — Family Guy (All-New Episode)
9:30-10:00 PM — The Great North (All-New Episode)
