“Marvel Cosmic Invasion” Gets Release Date, Reveals Final Roster (including Phoenix and Iron Man)

The Nintendo Direct from March 2025 was noteworthy for being the last Nintendo Direct before the first full-fledged “Switch 2 Direct” in April, and one of the most interesting games revealed in that Direct was “Marvel Cosmic Invasion”, a new “Beat ‘Em Up” game from a group that’s been cranking out the best “Beat ‘Em Ups” of the last few years: The development studio is “Tribute Games”, the developers of the hit “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge” and the upcoming “Scott Pilgrim EX”, and the publisher is Dotemu, the video game publisher of hits like “Streets of Rage 4” and “Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound”.

Over the months since that initial reveal, they’ve been releases new trailers showing additional roster characters, and now we have the final trailer, which also includes a release date:

Iron Man seems like an obvious pick, but Phoenix was unexpected but pleasant surprise. Jean Grey (the original “Marvel Girl”, now “Phoenix”) seemed to always be overlooked in Marvel arcade games – she wasn’t in the original X-Men arcade game and wasn’t in the first two “Marvel vs. Capcom” games (the ones actually in arcades). She finally appeared on home consoles with “Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds”, during the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation.

Iron Man, on the other hand, was totally expected, but it is neat that they have him in his 90’s armor design (fitting in with the retro aesthetic of the game and matching other characters wearing their classic costumes).

Anyway, here’s the final roster:

Beta-Ray Bill
Black Panther
Captain America
Cosmic Ghost Rider
Nova
Phyla-Vell
Rocket Raccoon
She-Hulk
Silver Surfer
Spider-Man
Storm
Venom
Wolverine
and now Phoenix and Iron Man.

Going by Dotemu’s other games (“TMTN: Shredder’s Revenge” being the most recent), it’s almost a certainty that there will be other superheroes added to the roster in the months ahead.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is set for release on December 1st, and is coming to PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC (via Steam).
