My Hero Academia: “The Final Boss” Episode 162 Recap

This week’s dub episode features Bakugo’s biggest heroic moment of the show, saving All Might from All for One and showing off his prowess against the villain. Without further ado, let’s recap what happens in this episode.

The episode begins with All for One doing the iconic Bane pose with All Might, inflicting a great deal of pain on the beloved hero.  Blood squirts out and one can tell All Might is receiving heavy damage. We cut to various people around the world issuing their prayers during the current crisis as it seems like the the big battle could result in the literal end of the world. In the United States, meteorologists have noticed that things are not looking good in terms of weather. Again, we are reminded that All Might’s closest friends are mourning his potential death. Suddenly, Bakugo makes his dramatic entrance as we saw last episode.

All for One continues to gloat that All Might is going to die and asks Midoriya if he can see his mentor as one of the spirits of the deceased former users of One for All. Midoriya indeed can make out a spirit. All Might’s spirit talks to his  dead sidekick Nighteye, who tells him that he is on the verge of death. All Might tells Nighteye that he was hoping that he would be the one to greet him in the spirit world when he died, not the other way around. All Might is obviously still upset that Nighteye died before he did.

Meanwhile, in the world of the living, Midoriya swings Bakugo around and Bakugo dramatically flies in to save All Might. After the near death experience in the spirit world, All Might returns to consciousness and  expresses his gratitude. Bakugo is able to make up for what he sees as his greatest failure, getting kidnapped by All for One and All Might getting into the fight that caused him to lose his powers. Bakugo is very confused as he sees an unrecognizable figure and wonders what happened to All for One. All Might explains that All for One had transformed into a younger form. Bakugo coughs up blood and seems to in rough condition himself. Edgeshot, who stitched himself into threads keeping Bakugo’s body together, leaves Bakugo and appears to in horrible condition too, being in a huge puddle of blood.

Despite being heavily battle damaged, it appears as though Bakugo is able to willpower himself enough to continue fighting. He furiously attacks All for One with his explosion quirk. During the fight, Bakugo exclaims, “I’m the final boss,” our title drop for this episode. The crowd watches the epic battle continue and many recognize him as the kid who got captured by All for One or as the kid from the Sports Festival. The crowd cheers on Bakugo as he fights the ultimate evil. There is lots of dramatic flying around and explosions everywhere as lots of buildings get destroyed during the obligatory big superhero battle. It looks like Bakugo’s explosions might be causing actual damage to All for One, shocking considering how invincible he seemed earlier.

The next episode previews reveal that this fight is going to continue on and that All for One isn’t quite defeated. That that anyone is surprised as this is only the third episode of the season. It looks like we will also be getting a flashback finally revealing All for One’s backstory. All for One has admittedly felt more like a generic evil overlord compared to the more sympathetic and fleshed out Shigaraki and the League of Villains, but this flashback might make All for One more compelling than what we’ve seen of him so far. Shigaraki’s backstory in season five was one of the most iconic moments in the show, let’s see if All for One’s backstory can live up to that iconic episode. As for this episode, we have gotten a strong outing with Bakugo having perhaps his biggest moment in the show.
