“Darwin’s Paradox!” – 2D Platformer Reveals New Gameplay Trailer, Release Date Moved to 2026

First revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play back in February, “Darwin’s Paradox” looks like a new, 2D platformer in the style of “Oddworld” (with a dash of Indie horror gems “Limbo”, “Inside”, or the “Little Nightmares” line of games, though this appears more comedy than horror). The game is being developed by ZDT Studio, a new studio under publisher Konami. The game is the first new creation from Konami in years, as for the last few years they’ve relied on Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill remasters (and on “game collections” of their older catalog of games (such as the “Castlevania Anniversary Collection” and the “Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection”).

Konami’s now released a new trailer, showing off more details on the gameplay, but there’s also hints as to the story of the game. At first glance, it looks very “Finding Nemo” (with an octopus being captured and brought to the surface world, and trying to avoid birds who want to eat you), but then there’s segments where you’re trying to escape a factory, and other segments where you’re back in the ocean and avoiding predators, and then by the end of the trailer, it looks like you’re having to deal with….aliens?!?

Here’s the new trailer:

Konami’s press release today gives further details, describing the plot as follows:

“KONAMI and French developers, ZDT Studio,Darwin, an octopus plucked out of his natural habitat and thrust into a chaotic world infiltrated by UFOOD INC. where a devious plan for world domination is unraveling.”

Each stage of Darwin’s Paradox! unfolds across dynamic environments filled with challenges and thought-provoking encounters. From landfills teeming with rabid rats to the menacing mechanical underbelly of a food factory by the sea, Darwin’s Paradox! immerses players in a rich narrative brought to life by a colorful cast of characters and a uniquely cerebral gameplay experience.”

Darwin’s platformer gameplay is very reminiscent of “Oddworld”

In the “February State of Play” trailer, Darwin’s Paradox was listed as coming in 2025, but with the latest trailer, it’s been revealed to have been pushed back to 2026 (hopefully in the first half of the year!).  “Darwin’s Paradox” is now confirmed to be releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (via Steam). Previously, it was slated for release on the original Nintendo Switch, but it’s now confirmed they’ve opted for a “Switch 2” version instead.
