“Replaced”, the Long Awaited “2.5D Retro-Cyberpunk” Game, Gets New Trailer and Release Date

First revealed at Xbox’s E3 Showcase in 2021, “Replaced” is a retro-inspired Cyberpunk action platformer game by new developer Sad Cad Studios, and is being published by Swedish distributor Thunderful Games. The game went silent for a couple years (since it’s last trailer), but now we have a new trailer, along with a release date: the game is set for release on March 12th, 2026!

Though “Cyberpunk” usually involves a “near future” setting, the developers have revealed this to have a “alternate history” setting, with the game taking place in a dystopian verion of 1980’s USA (with the background being “What if nuclear bombs went off in America at the end of World War 2, not in Japan?). The artstyle still feels very at home alongside games like “Cyperpunk 2077”. The gameplay and pixal artwork invokes the sidescrolling style of 90’s games (though it’s “2.5D”, meaning the character can move into the foreground and background of the level).

Here’s the trailer:

The description for the game from Sad Cat Studio reads:

“REPLACED is a 2.5D cinematic action platformer set in an alternate 1980s America scarred by nuclear catastrophe, where Phoenix-City stands as a corrupt stronghold of Phoenix Corporation. Play as R.E.A.C.H. – an AI trapped in a human body – and uncover the sinister agenda behind your creation as you navigate a world where outlaws thrive and human life is traded like currency.

Run, climb, and fight with fluid, precise movement through crumbling districts, industrial wastelands, and neon-lit alleys. Chain precise melee strikes with satisfying ranged attacks in high-intensity combat encounters.

REPLACED delivers a gripping single-player experience driven by morally complex characters and a deep dystopian narrative. Its retro-futuristic world is brought to life with striking hand-crafted pixel art and modern visual effects, all amplified by a moody, synth-driven soundtrack that immerses you in its bleak cyberpunk atmosphere.”

“Replaced” features a dystopian 80’s America to sidescroll through

“Replaced” will be available for purchased on Xbox and PC on March 12th, 2026. The game is coming to Xbox Game Pass on Day One as well (meaning you can try the game out as part of your Game Pass Subscription). 2026 is starting to get packed with games already!
