“Spider-Noir” Posters Reveal Nicholas Cage is NOT Playing Peter Parker

We learned last year of a “Spider-Man: Noir” series coming to Amazon Prime, starring Nicholas Cage. Now, Amazon and Marvel have revealed new details at the CCPX convention in Brazil this last weekend. First, it would appear they’ve now settled on the name “Spider-Noir” for the series (a welcome change from just calling it “Noir”, as was reported originally last year). The studio also revealed it’s first official promotional poster, along with showing a one second clip from the upcoming show (showing the protagonist confronting a criminal). And yes, the character design, from what little can be seen, looks amazing, but the big revelation is the name on the promotional poster: The name on the door reads “B. Reilly Private Investigator”!

Yes, it would appear that Nicholas Cage isn’t playing a variant of Peter Parker. Instead, he appears to be playing “Ben Reilly”, the clone of Peter Parker (from the infamous “Clone Saga” from the 90’s). For those not in the know, the short version: Peter had a clone who adopted the name Ben Reilly (based on a combination of Uncle Ben first name and Aunt May’s maiden name), and for a while in the 90’s, Marvel wanted us to believe he was the REAL Peter Parker, and the one we had been following for years was the clone, as Marvel was looking for a way to break up Peter’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson. You see, if Ben was the REAL Peter Parker, he could go back to being a swinging bachelor again (letting Peter ride off into the sunset with Mary Jane). Marvel later went back on that, confirming Ben was the clone and Peter was the real deal.

Spider-Man: Noir #1, from February 2009

But what does this mean for the “Spider-Noir” series? Probably nothing. It would be shocking for a 1930’s Noir-themed version of Spider-Man to deal with clones. The name change is likely just to make clear: this is NOT Peter Parker. The “Noir” version of Spider-Man first appeared in comics in the “Spider-Man Noir” mini-series from 2009. The character made his first appearance in animation in 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse”, which leaned into the “alternate reality” trappings. The upcoming Amazon Prime show will be the first appearance of the character in live action.

Also of interest: The upcoming show has been confirmed to have an 8 episode length, and the show will be available in both a color version and a “black and white” version! There’s still no word one when an actual trailer for “Spider-Noir” will be revealed, and there’s still not a release date, other than it’s coming in 2026 (hopefully EARLY 2026).
