A Wonderfully Weird Seasons 3 And 4 Have Been Granted To Gumball

The Wonderfully Weird World Of Gumball

I can say right now I’m as happy as Richard Watterson in a dreamscape made entirely of butter. Hulu announced this morning, four days before the arrival of The Wonderfully Weird World Of Gumball Season 2, that the revival of the Cartoon Network classic has been picked up for seasons 3 and 4. To that we say “WHAT THE WHAT??” but in a good way.

This is not an instance where the show already had a four-season deal and Hulu said nothing. The original order was always for two seasons. This means the show did well enough that an additional order was justified. Gumball has officially survived the death of CN to thrive somewhere else. People still want good cartoons!

“The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball has proven completely irresistible to families and fans across the globe, making it the easiest of decisions to say an emphatic yes to this new season.”  said Vanessa Brookman, GM, International Kids, Animation and Franchise. “I am thrilled to continue to work with Ben, Sarah and the hugely talented Gumball team on bringing more Wonderful Weirdness to our Cartoon Network audiences internationally.”

“Gumball has been a massive success for the studio and it’s been so gratifying to see fans enthusiastically welcome these characters back to their screens,” adds Sarah Fell, SVP & Studio Head, Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. “Ben Bocquelet, Erik Fountain, Matt Layzell, and the incredibly creative team were instrumental to its success, and I’m excited we get to deliver even more wonderful weirdness. Thankfully, this time fans won’t have to wait seven years.”

In Gumball’s more immediate future, the second season will at last pick up the abandoned thread from the previous series’ finale about Gumball’s nemesis Rob and just what he was trying to warn everyone about. Apparently the danger wasn’t THAT immediate and allowed for 39 episodes of adventure before they had to deal with it. But it will be tackled in the season finale.

The launch of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball last July performed pretty well, landing at #1 on Hulu’s trending list of animated shows as well as #1 on Disney+ where accounts were connected. Season 2, which will be composed of twenty episodes like the first, debuts December 22.
