Marvel has announced a set of comic one-shots for this year’s Fantastic Four: First Steps movie. The one shots will reveal more of the backstory and will develop the characters introducted in the newest live-action project to feature the quartet of heroes. The first one is titled Fantastic Four: First Foes, and if you can’t tell, the story revolves around the heroes first encounter with a supervillain – in this case, The Mad Thinker.

The first issue is scheduled to debut on March 4, 2026 and it will be written by Dan Slott with art by Mark Buckingham. The main cover artwork by Phil Noto, with variant covers by Kaare Andrews and a 2nd one by Noto.

The official synopsis for Fantastic Four: First Foes #1 reads as follows.

“Return to the world of Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps in the first of a series of quarterly one-shot specials throughout 2026 expanding on different characters and moments from the film! On Earth-828, a cosmic mishap has transformed four brave astronauts into the world’s champions and protectors. They are the Fantastic Four – but one person isn’t happy about things. He’s known as the Mad Thinker, and he’s determined to get his proper due by turning the city of tomorrow against its heroic patrons!

In addition to the main story, Fantastic Four: First Foes #1 will also include a two page “Fantastic Science” feature inspired by Reed Richards’ educational programming in the world of the film. Written by Ryan North, the current mastermind behind Marvel’s ongoing Fantastic Four comic book series, this short story is one fans of all ages won’t want to miss!”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuted earlier this summer and starred Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch. The actors are set to reprise their roles in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently scheduled to release on December 18, 2026.
