Your power is no budget and extra exposition? Really? Really?

Impressions:

Boy, this season and episode 2s… What an awful episode. There's nothing wrong with thinky protagonists, especially those who rely on subterfuge or wit. That was largely Shinpei's deal in Summer Time Rendering. But when you make the whole power that they cause time to stop so they can exposit for five minutes in what's supposedly taking place in five seconds, that's not a power. That's how anime works as a default. You're just fetishizing it and trying to call the cliche special. Creating pacing problems and trying to make excuses to not animate people moving is pathetic. This was pathetic. Same as her declarations that she'd stop him from killing any more people and then just sat there. Especially while her friend gets to assassinate everybody without compunction. Good for not throwing a tantrum about it, but why even bring this up if you're not going to do squat and nobody else is supposed to follow this rule?

And there were so many better ways all these powers could've been done. Just hide it and let him appear like a super badass. Have her be reacting to and anticpating things as an active participant. Let vine guy do… well, literally goddamned anything. He was especially bad because wasn't his schitck last week stated to be that he inflicted sleep paralysis or something? Now it's that he controls vines that only he can see…… unless there's smoke or something, in which case anybody can see them. And for all the fuss it made about evil dude's power going crazy, who's-her-face spent those entire eight minutes just sitting there, being Chekhov's most obvious gun while the dude narrated that all was lost, after trying nothing. But also, shouldn't she have realized most of this stuff from the get-go if she has telepathy? Urgh. So much about this episode is just making me mad. Be better than this, anime.
