London-based duo Apple Eyes, comprising Claire Hadidjenar and Matthew Walker, return with “Begin With The End,” a warmly melodic pop gem blending brass flourishes, jangling guitars, and entwined vocals, marking a heartfelt continuation after years of creative pause. We covered the duo’s project The Hidden Messages way back in 2007, and almost two decades later it’s great to see Hadidjenar and Walker continue crafting gorgeous sounds.
Fervent pulses of trumpet and electric guitar move quickly into a breezy, trickling allure as Hadidjenar’s lushly melodic vocals emerge. “Everything in here, it reminds me of you,” her vocals admit, accelerating into a punchy array of jangling guitars during the track’s magnetic chorus. “I don’t have the heart to begin with the end,” the chorus concludes, then venturing into more lovely brass flourishes. An especially magnetic moment comes midpoint, when Walker’s vocals assume the lead as dreamy guitar glistening complements heartrending professions: “It’d take me all of my life just to get over you.” Harmonious vocal layers and bursting trumpet then dazzle across a wholly satiating finale. “Begin With The End” is a thorough success from Apple Eyes.
