Parched is a five-piece alt-rock band hailing from Birmingham, UK. They were born out of lockdown and have built their sound around raw, restless power.
Years of pent-up emotion have been released in the form of their new single ‘Hotel’. It is the second single from their upcoming EP. This follows their first release, ‘Butterflies and Moths’. The songs mesh well together. ‘Hotel’ was inspired by the lead singer’s stay in a hotel after being forced away from home. The themes of homesickness, anger and sadness are expressed throughout.
Immediately, a raw vocal talent is displayed through a haze of sliding guitar. Without a chance to settle, drums thud, and the song takes flight. Heads get to shaking. The band collide sounds delightfully.
The song is rooted in classic alternative rock but has a unique splash of lightness in its darkness. The song allows the listener to paint their own canvas. Although the message is clear, the melting pot of sound allows for each listen to be a chance for new reflection. The song is entirely written and produced by the band – another testament to their ability.
The brotherly love of the band is clear through the sound and promo release. Lead vocals are handled by Conor Hayes – he produces raspy, insightful vocalism. Louis Maylin provides bass and backing vocals and is happy in a band that he knows has a clear vision for making music that matters. Tom James finds himself on Drums and provides classic powerhouse rhythms that set the chaotic tone. His younger brother, Harvey James, is on rhythm guitar and further backs up the vocal wall. Olly May completes the band on lead guitar, a virtuoso from a young age and a melody craftsman.
The song finds its place in the beautiful world of alternative/emo rock. The tracks released by Parched display excellent musical prowess. The years spent writing and recording together suggest many more hit tracks full of rage and beauty are to come.
