Reddit users have been discussing the best video games ever made – check out their most popular choices below:
Taking to the popular AskReddit subreddit, one user asked “what is the best video game ever made” with more than 2600 users getting involved in the discussion.
The top-rated comment is currently a post praising Rolleroaster Tycoon 2, which was first released back in 2002 and lets people design their own theme park. “It’s a masterpiece, there was nothing like it back then,” wrote one fan. “There are few games of this calibre,” said another.
Tetris is also another popular choice. “I’ve seen my 70 year old mother who has never held a controller play Tetris. Eagerly so. Puzzles have universal appeal and zero learning curve,” explained one fan. “Tetris is the only game I have played since I was a child and still haven’t got tired of it,” wrote another.

A post nominating 1988’s Super Mario Bros. 3 is the third top-rated comment. “That nostalgic feeling I get thinking about this game just can’t be beat. I’m not a gamer and I realise there are probably countless better games out now but that one just brings me back to my happy, carefree childhood days of not having a care in the world besides beating Bowser’s (aka: King Koopa) ass and saving the Princess,” explained one Reddit user while others praised 1990’s Super Mario World.
Other Reddit favs include Chrono Trigger, Half-Life 2, Mass Effect and The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. “The storytelling, the music, the worldbuilding – Ocarina Of Time is charming, scary at times, filled with hope but with a sense of melancholy throughout. It’s easy going, it’s intense, it really has it all. Absolute masterpiece and it should always be in the GOAT conversation, if not outright dominating it,” wrote one fan.
In other news, jazz pop orchestra The 8-Bit Big Band won the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella last night for their gospel Super Mario remix.
