The R.E.S.E.A.R.C.H. – “Fast Forward”

Vancouver-based trio The R.E.S.E.A.R.C.H. delight with new single “Fast Forward,” melding catchy garage-rock and power-pop smarts alongside personal themes. The production’s melodic immediacy intertwines with strong emotional weight. Its creation was inspired by the passing of a loved one and the memory of how deeply they connected with the artist’s music. That reflection ultimately reignited the desire to return to the studio and create again.

“I’m on my way,” a debonair vocal drive commences amidst bouncy guitar twangs and thumping rhythms; the track’s momentum is palpable from the start. “Don’t take me home,” the vocals beckon, then arriving into a delectably distortion-laden rock prowess that reminds fondly of classic Super Furry Animals. The shifts between the tight, punchy verses — “I don’t feel free, did it for TV” — and “you already know” vigor-full rock rousing make for a constant sense of climactic whimsy.

The two-minute turn also stirs in the slight vocal switch-up, heightening in pitch and reflective guitar twangs bolster the escalating mix. “I don’t wanna see you,” they admit, then gearing into another crunchingly contagious hook. The R.E.S.E.A.R.C.H. have churned out a replay-inducing rock success with “Fast Forward.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
