Belgium-based artist Yves-$aint-Lambert crafts a memorable electronic sound across PANTHEON, an EP where dark trance meets symphonic tension. Eschewing traditional climaxes for a “poisonous” hypnotic allure, the tracks merge French touch rigor with a dramatic, cinematic depth. Per the artist, the EP embraces a particular aesthetic: “music that does not resolve itself, but imposes itself through its repetition, substance, and depth.”
The radio edit for “PANTHEON” kickstarts the EP with an invigorating intrigue, melding arp-y synths with whooshing effects and a sturdy, panting rhythmic backing. Cinematic, string-laden flourishes bolster the enthralling mix, as does the ensuing vocal presence — shifting between conversational suaveness and chuckles. Whispers add to the dynamic vocal fixation, which traverses seamlessly amidst the hybrid of shimmering synth pads, glistening arps, and rumbling bass. Maintaining a lovely balance between lushly intoxicating and infectiously immediate, “PANTHEON” is a stellar success, captivating in this radio cut, the instrumental version, and the Club Edit, which lengthens the track about a minute and adds further grooving rhythmic elements.
Another standout track on the EP, “Symphomaniac” enthralls in its ascent to lavish strings, spacey keys, and ruminating synth buzzing — another showcase in masterful atmospheric construction. The string usage throughout is especially riveting in its swelling grandeur. The track was crafted as Yves-$aint-Lambert attempted to reinterpret the emotions experienced while listening to records from a variety of artists: the hypnotic disco of Cerrone, the dramatic violins of Serge Gainsbourg’s Melody Nelson, the modern groove of Baxter Dury, the “poisonous” compositions of Shostakovich and Khachaturian, and the obsessive minimalism of Erik Satie. All four tracks on the EP dazzle with a stylishly melodic fervency.
