Woody Allen’s wife calls Timothée Chalamet a “prick” in Epstein Files email

Timothée Chalamet and Woody Allen

Woody Allen’s wife, Soon-Yi Previn, allegedly called Timothée Chalamet a “prick” in a 2018 email included in the Epstein files.

The exchange was part of millions of documents released in relation to the convicted former financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was imprisoned for sex trafficking of minors in July 2019. He died in prison in August of that year.

The email thread between Previn and Epstein appears to show the former forwarding a negative review of Chalamet’s 2018 film Hot Summer Nights, and writing: “I’m glad that prick Chalamet’s movie did not get a good review. No I’m not vindictive. :-)”

While there is no stated reason for her hostility toward the actor, Chalamet did distance himself from her husband’s film A Rainy Day In New York. The actor starred in the film, which was completed in 2018, but shelved by Amazon following historic sexual assault allegations resurfacing as part of the #MeToo movement. Woody Allen has repeated denied all accusations made against him.

Chalamet would donate his fee for the movie to various charities, and express regret for having worked with the director, writing on Instagram: “I don’t want to profit from my work on the film”. His co-star Selena Gomez would express regret at working on the film, and also make a donation to charity.

The film was eventually released in 2019. In a two-star review, NME’s Paul Bradshaw called the film “a damp end to Woody Allen’s Hollywood career,” remarking that the various plot lines are “so clumsily drawn that they seem like they started out as ideas for other movies that never happened.”

“If you’re a fan of Woody there are a few reasons to give this a go,” he concluded. “But if you’re not, there are probably already enough other reasons why you won’t want to bother.”

Last year, the government of Ukraine criticised Allen for appearing at the Moscow Film Festival.
