Taylor Swift has enlisted Graham Norton for the second video of the ‘Showgirl’ era – find out how to watch it below.
Today (Friday February 6), the second single of the ‘Life of a Showgirl‘ album was brought to life with new visuals written and directed by Swift, and boasting a star-studded cast including TV host Norton, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Lewis Capaldi, and Cillian Murphy.
Swift took to Instagram to announce the new video, explaining that much of its inspiration came from her stop on The Graham Norton Show last year, alongside all the video’s stars. Saying the concept “crash landed” into her imagination while doing press for her latest album, she took a moment to explain Norton’s show for fans outside the UK.
“For those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s a UK late night show where Graham Norton (the insanely charismatic and lovable host) invites a random group of actors, entertainers, musicians, etc to be on his show and we all sit there and chat like it’s a dinner party,” she wrote.
After saying she got “ridiculously lucky with the group I was paired with”, she recalled The Paper star Gleeson cracking a joke about being in one of her videos. “In that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an idea,” she continued.
“And so a week later he received an email script I’d written for the ‘Opalit’e video, where he was playing the starring role. I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on The Graham Norton Show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too.
“Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory. To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the 90’s with us and help with this video. You might even recognise some friendly faces from ‘The Eras Tour’.
“I had more fun than I ever imagined – Made new friends, metaphors, and fashion choices. It was an absolute thrill to create this story and these characters.”
Shot on film and seemingly inspired by ‘90s infomercials, Swift and Gleeson star as “Lonely Woman” and “Lonely Man,” both of whom have eschewed real relationships in favour of inanimate objects – her with a rock, him with a cactus – which they take out on ill-fated dates.
After seeing an ad for Opalite spray, a kind of magical elixir that fixes loneliness, both order some, and Swift’s Lonely Woman finds herself in Lonely Man’s living room after a spritz. From there, an endearingly awkward friendship – and several cameos – follow.
Capaldi makes a brief appearance as a photographer at the mall where they go for a photoshoot, while Norton tends an in-store display of Nope-alite, which undoes the magic of the spray.
Murphy is both the face and voice of Opalite, narrating the opening commercial, and making an appearing as the face of the product on a splashy poster. Fans can watch the video on on Spotify and Apple Music now.

It arrives after Norton previously praised Swift’s ability to be “so close to normal” despite her massive fame.
The ‘Bejeweled’ singer has appeared four times on The Graham Norton Show throughout the course of her career so far. While appearing as a guest on the Kyle and Jackie O radio Show, the host and comedian opened up about how down-to-earth Swift is despite being one of the world’s biggest stars.
“Someone like Taylor Swift, who is arguably the most famous woman in the world – it’s remarkable how she appears to be so close to normal,” he told the radio hosts (per her.ie).
