Lizzie Reid Confronts the Cycle of Obsession on Snarling New Single “Sweet Relief”

Glaswegian singer-songwriter Lizzie Reid has officially announced her forthcoming EP, Undoing, set for release on April 17. To mark the news, Reid has dropped the project’s grand opener, “Sweet Relief,” a dark, ruminative track that signals her most unrestrained and vulnerable era to date. The announcement also comes with a fresh run of UK headline tour dates scheduled for late April and early May.

Speaking on the track’s heavy themes, Reid says:

“The cycle is brutal, exhausting and incredibly sneaky. The more I searched for solutions, the murkier the waters became… The temptation and urgency to ‘fix myself’ is a voice that appears to want to help, but in fact was keeping me in the cycle.”

“Sweet Relief” is a departure from the quiet intimacy of her SAY Award-shortlisted debut, Cubicle. The track is loud and uncompromising, built on thundering drums, ghostly synths, and snarling guitar work from Andrew Pearson. Featuring guest vocals from long-time collaborator Hamish Hawk, the single explores the brutal exhaustion of mental health cycles. Reid describes the song as an excavation of the urgent voice that tries to fix internal panic but instead keeps the listener trapped in a loop of darkness.

For Reid, the EP title Undoing represents more than an emotional collapse; it is an invitation to unlearn old patterns and find “new life amongst the ashes.” By leaning into the ugliness of rage and the awkwardness of grief, Reid solidifies her reputation as a musician’s musician, fresh off collaborations with the likes of Dead Pony, Jacob Alon, and Katie Gregson-MacLeod.
