‘Tehran’ producer Dana Eden found dead in Athens hotel room while filming new season: “A moment of great sorrow”

    Dana Eden, a producer on the Apple TV hit spy thriller series Tehran, was found dead at the age of 52 on Sunday (February 15) in a hotel room in Athens, Greece.

    No cause of death has yet been confirmed, but Reuters quoted local police officials as saying that they’re currently treating it as a potential suicide, based on early evidence and testimonies.

    Eden was in the capital filming the fourth season of the Apple TV+ series, and the publication added that Greek investigators found pills at the scene, and a coroner found bruises on Eden’s neck.

    “This is a moment of great sorrow for the family, friends, and colleagues,” production company Donna and Shula Productions said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter.

    The address also appeared to address rumours sweeping social media that the death was connected to Iranian agents, saying: “The production company wishes to clarify that rumours regarding a criminal or nationalistic-related death are not true and are unfounded.”

    Eden was one of Israel’s best-known producers, with tributes paid from figures across the media and political landscape. Israeli public broadcaster Kan, which co-produced Tehran, said in a statement: “We mourn the passing of our colleague and partner in a long line of productions, series, and programs at the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation – Dana Eden.

    “Dana was among the senior figures in Israel’s television industry and played a central role in creating and leading some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions. Her professional and personal legacy will continue to shape Israeli television for many years to come.”

    Israel’s minister of culture Miki Zohar took to X/Twitter to write: “With great sorrow, I received the news of the passing of Dana Eden, one of the most prominent and influential producers in the Israeli television industry.

    “Dana left a profound mark on Israeli creation and brought our story to international stages with pride, talent, and courage. I share in the grief of the family, friends, and colleagues. May her memory be blessed.”

    Greek police officials said the 52-year-old’s body was found after her brother failed to reach her after trying several times. Local police issued an autopsy order to determine the cause of death and started collecting security camera footage and testimony from hotel staff, according to reports.

    Hugh Laurie stars in the recently launched third season of Tehran. Created by Eden alongside Moshe Zonder and Maor Kohn, the show is written by Tony Saint and Simon Allen, and directed by Daniel Syrkin. It stars Niv Sultan as a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity.

    According to Variety, the third season was reportedly delayed because of how similar the plotline was to the real events unfolding in Iran over the past year.
