“Falling Through” is a moving new single from Northamptonshire-based artist Deekie, whose Afrobeats sound succeeds in both sincere emotion and bustling, dynamic tonal expanses. Blending tender guitar tones with hypnotic, soulful production, the track explores the disorienting aftermath of heartbreak. Deekie’s vulnerable vocals plead for grace amidst psychedelic textures, culminating in a hauntingly atmospheric finale.
A hypnotic, thumping envelopment takes hold right away, setting playful rhythmic activity with tender, subdued guitar tones. A questioning “where do I go?” vocal soulfulness follows, melancholic and soul-searching in its demeanor as the moody guitars and steady rhythmic elements intertwine. “Give me grace, give me grace,” the vocals plead as psychedelic, hazy textures infuse seamlessly, adorned by multi-layered vocal “give me your love” beckoning that moves with caressing, warming charm.
“Come closer,” Deekie’s vocals tempt during an especially memorable sequence, where mellow, late-night keys bolster encouragements to “meditate” and not to put a strain on yourself. The easy-going, soulful atmospheric exterior and encouraging, introspective lyrics meld for a thoroughly approachable and melodic result. “Now the sun is down,” the vocals continue to deliver into a haunting outro, with solemn guitar twangs and ghostly vocal murmurs making for a Radiohead-esque finale. “Falling Through” is a stellar output from Deekie.
