
Los Angeles-based virtuoso Bei Bei and London-based producer Paul Elliott celebrate the Lunar New Year with the cinematic ambient-fusion album Two Moons. This collaboration bridges 2,500 years of Chinese tradition with analog-leaning electronic design, allowing the guzheng and guqin to lead amidst vintage synths and tactile rhythms. Featuring acclaimed guest musicians on traditional instruments, the project functions as a unified ecosystem where ancient heritage and modern technology enhance one another.
Opening with hypnotic, atmospheric blissfulness, the album’s title track caught our ears this past November. Vibrant, plucky sounds of the traditional guzheng meld with a lush lo-fi production, building from serene electronic flashes into a warmly booming bass line. The release continues to consistently impress thereafter. The ensuing “Gaoshan Electronica” also consumes in melding traditional, trickling allure with modern rhythmic interplay, ceaselessly lively and effervescent in its charming melodic output.

The album continues to immerse with its electronic infusions, particularly on “Silk Soiree,” where jazz-ready guzheng melds with a string-laden heartrending melodic drive and intermittent electronics. “Walk the Fame” arrives next, featuring guqin with downtempo electronic appeal; the subdued, industrial-ready beats combine with beautiful guqin-centric intrigue for another soundscape-ready success. Album finale “Midnight Bizarre” enthralls as well, casting a cinematic spell in its suave bass and dreamy plucks. Thoroughly successful in its bridging of classical elements with modern electronic savvy, Two Moons is a lovely listening experience from Bei Bei.
