Released in 2003 and taking heavy inspiration from Grand Theft Auto, The Simpsons Hit & Run is widely regarded as the greatest ever Simpsons video game and has sold over 3million copies. Work on a sequel began shortly after launch but the project was ultimately scrapped.

In 2021, The Simpsons co-showrunner Matt Selman admitted that a Hit & Run remake would be a “complicated corporate octopus” but he would “love” for it to happen while lead game designer Joe McGinn has also expressed interest in revisiting the game.

Earlier this week, original developers Radical Entertainment returned as New Radical Games after shutting down in 2013. The studio “specialises in remastering classic games” and their new website features a lot of nods to The Simpsons Hit & Run, with many fans convinced a remake is in the works.
