New Wolves – “Boiling Up”

Spanning from mellow rainy-day introspection to gorgeous string-laden expanses, “Boiling Up” is another memorable track from New Wolves, the Swansea, UK-based three-piece who caught our ears with the vibrantly melodic single “Sleep it back” in January. The trio describe this latest release as “about trying to find one quiet, still and human moment that feels tangible and real.”

“From a sky, I see an orange city, its long lost light,” calming vocals open amidst trickling guitar tones and steady rhythms. The illuminated lyrical descriptions shift into a darker foreboding upon the “falling down this road, in the dark” subsequent verses, bolstered by heartrending strings as the “put the rain on hold for awhile” aspirations come into view.

The track’s midpoint is especially enchanting with its bursting string presence. Meanwhile, the lyrics delight overall, conveying a state of fragile sanctuary and pleading reprieve. By embracing the heat of a dying fire, the track finds a haunting beauty in the moments that persist just before the rain finally arrives. “Boiling Up” is another impactful success from the project.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
