London collective Y are stepping out of the shadows with the announcement of their sophomore EP, ENTER, set for release on May 8th via SO Recordings and Hideous Mink Records. Following a high-profile premiere on BBC 6 Music with Steve Lamacq, the band has today shared their first track of 2026, ‘May’, a hypnotic, “dance-while-you-cry” anthem that perfectly captures the friction of the capital’s underground scene. Born from the creative isolation of founders Adam Brennan and Sophie Coppin, the track weaves subtle political jabs with personal turmoil, marking a sharper, louder evolution for a group that has quickly become impossible to ignore.
Of the single, the band detail,
“‘May’ was written in the run up to an election happening that month. The song weaves subtle political and cultural jabs with imagery of growth and decay, pulling on both public events and private turmoil happening during the time. In cohesion with our previous releases, ‘May’ keeps a sense of humour — a dance-while-you-cry kind of number — while maintaining our signature sound.”
Having cut their teeth at the legendary Windmill Brixton alongside acts like Fat Dog and Warmduscher, Y have built a reputation for live performances that feel more like a collective purge than a standard gig. This reputation has already earned them spots on Dork’s 2026 HYPE List and DIY’s Hello 2026 series, positioning them as one of the most adventurous voices in the current alternative landscape. With a debut UK headline tour and a packed festival season now officially on the horizon, the arrival of ENTER signals the moment Y moves from being the underground’s best-kept secret to a defining force of the year.
