Evolving from acoustic-set lushness into an expansive sound with melodic lap steel and jazzy rhythms, “Rise and Set” is a moving new track from Seattle-based musician Abbey Blackwell. Described as “a playful look at the end of a relationship, and finding solace in the things that stay constant,” “Rise and Set” represents the first single from Blackwell’s upcoming full-length Dream a Day, out on April 7th.

“What a perfect time to make it on your own,” Blackwell’s serene vocals let out during the initial, acoustic-forward section. Gentle rhythms ease in seamlessly thereafter, the vibrant twangs and ascending vocals stirring in the “rise in the west, set in the east” culmination. Hazy, ethereal tones and a beckoning to “keep holding me” result in a grippingly emotive standout of a track, leaving us firmly anticipating the forthcoming Dream a Day.

Blackwell is also known for her work as a bassist for acclaimed groups like Alvvays and La Luz.
