Bleach the Sky – ‘Wash Away’ EP

Wash Away is the gripping sophomore EP from Boston trio Bleach the Sky. Produced by Jay Maas, the release melds ’90s alternative rock inspirations with shoegaze and post-hardcore. From the distortion-heavy allure of “GIN” to the anthemic, soaring choruses of “Tail Light,” the band navigates themes of isolation and liberation with replay-inducing energy.

Kicking off the EP in rousing form, “GIN” expands quickly from submerged guitar tones into a warming array of distortion. “Do you whisper when I sleep? Think about it constantly,” a suave vocal presence opens. A steady rhythm section aligns enjoyably with the crunching distortion, with the backing vocals adding vigor in the “feel sore” sequence and ensuing “grounded into nothing” chorus — aesthetically reminding fondly of Matthew Good Band.

The ensuing “Tail Light” also stands out, embracing a heavier-rocking launching point as blistering, soaring guitars intertwine with layered distortion before seamlessly shifting into dreamier, spacious moments. Bleach the Sky certainly excel in moments of ardent rock appeal, though also show a clear capacity for dreamier intrigue as well. EP finale “Into the End” also captivates with a dynamic tonal flair, moving cohesively between blaring guitar moodiness and lusher twanging. The track closes off the album with a delectable dose of feedback. Wash Away is a fantastic showcase in rock-ready energy from Bleach the Sky.

The band also made an excellent mini-documentary about the EP. Check it out below:

“GIN” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
