“Smile, People Smile!” is a vibrant soul-pop anthem from London-based artist Audren. Born from a period of personal hardship and a battle with Lyme disease, the track utilizes lush horn arrangements and bluesy guitar work whilst thematically championing joy and self-love. Featuring high-caliber session musicians and a debonair, soulful sophistication, it transforms a moment of internal encouragement into a magnetic invitation to embrace individual strength.
The track’s mixture of motivational lyrical sentiments, soulful vocal charisma, and smoothly absorbing instrumentation makes for a lovely listening experience. The title-touting central hook certainly delights in its sophisticated arsenal — heartfelt strings, spurts of brass, tender guitars, and moody keys — as various vocal tones meld with cohesive enthrallment. The captivation continues in general throughout, as well. “Don’t you wait ’cause it’s to move on,” the vocals encourage, in gravitating away from hard times; the lush soul-pop stylings there remind fondly of The Style Council in its nostalgic, blissful character.
“Smile, people smile! Smiling makes you feel good,” the multi-layered vocals ring out in the magnetic chorus, capped off by an ascending “alright” suaveness. The debonair guitar solo around 02:30 also enamors. The track’s beckoning to loosen up and embrace personal power, rather than wallowing in hardships or obstacles, resonates fully — as does the soulful pop melodic drive. Audren’s “Smile, People Smile!” is exceptionally easy to keep on repeat and bask in the warm, soulful glow.
