“You’ve been part of our history, now be part of our future,” reads the dedicated Playerbase website. “To celebrate over 30 years of incredible PlayStation memories, we’re giving you a chance to be scanned into a PlayStation Studios game – starting with Gran Turismo 7.”

To take part in the contest, gamers have to share a “special” story about their love of all things PlayStation. “We’re looking for our biggest fans– tell us what PlayStation means to you and what makes you stand out from the crowd,” Sony wrote.

A shortlist of people will then be interviewed before the lucky winner will be invited to be scanned at one of Sony’s visual arts studios and their likeness included in the upcoming Gran Turismo 7, but only for a “limited time”. The winner will also “help design a custom Fantasy Logo and a one-of-a-kind vehicle livery that will be added permanently to the Showcase menu.”

Gran Turismo 7 was released back in 2022 and the Playbase winner will be added as part of a new update later this year. More games will be announced in the near future.

Winners will be picked based on a number of criteria including “engagement” with the PlayStation brand “as evidenced by ownership of PlayStation products, subscriptions, games played, hours played” as well as “authentic love for PlayStation and details [of] your personal history with the brand” and “how much your interview includes shareable and entertaining content”.

Earlier this year, Sony announced plans for an AI-generated ghost player to help gamers out when they get stuck. The tool will be trained on Twitch streams but no release date has been confirmed.

In other news, Project Hail Mary is getting a mixed augmented reality, virtual reality sequel game based on a new chapter written by original author Andy Weir. Journey Among The Stars will launch later this year. “Since creating Project Hail Mary a few years ago, fans have been waiting for more,” said Weir. “This is the first step outside of what happens in the book and movie, something you can only experience in mixed reality.”
