Aubrey Plaza is expecting her first child with her partner, actor Christopher Abbott.
Representatives for Parks And Recreation star confirmed the news to People, with a source close to the actor telling the publication: “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year, they feel very blessed.” Prior to being a couple, the pair worked together on stage and in the 2020 film Black Bear. Abbott’s other credits include 2018 drama First Man with Ryan Gosling, the Oscar-winning Poor Things, and the title character in horror Wolf Man, released last year.
The news of the pregnancy comes just over a year after the death of Plaza’s former husband, Jeff Baena, who died by suicide in his Los Angeles home on January 3, aged 47. Reports stated that he and Plaza had been separated for four months prior to his death.
Last August, Plaza spoke to former Parks And Recreation co-star Amy Poehler about her experiences with grief, comparing it to the recent sci-fi horror movie The Gorge. “In the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side and there’s a cliff on the other side, then there’s a gorge in between and it’s filled with all these like monster people that are trying to get them,” Plaza explained. “I swear when I watched it, I was like that feels like what my grief is like … or what grief could be like.”
“At all times there’s like a giant ocean of awfulness, that’s like right there and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it’s always there.”
