The hosts and musical guests for the next two episodes of SNL UK have been confirmed, following the show’s brief hiatus.
The British spin-off of the American comedy institution will return on April 25, with Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan hosting, with music from Foo Fighters.
The Dave Grohl-fronted band will be the first international music act to appear on the show. The following week on May 2, The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood will host, with MEEK as the music guest.
It will be Coughlan’s second appearance on the show, having made a cameo in the opening episode hosted by Tina Fey.
Foo Fighters are veterans of the American version of the show, having made nine appearances beginning in 1995. The rock legends will be promoting their new album, ‘Your Favourite Toy’, released April 24, while MEEK will appearing following the success of her viral single ‘Fabulous’.
Aimee Lou Wood’s inclusion as host is notable given the controversy surrounding how she was portrayed on the American version of Saturday Night Live. Last year, a spoof sketch aired that saw Sarah Sherman play a version of Wood’s White Lotus character Chelsea, with exaggerated false teeth.
The actor took to her Instagram stories to call the sketch “mean and unfunny”. “Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple of weeks ago,” she added. “Yes, take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about- but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?” SNL later contacted the star and apologised for the sketch.
Last September, she told BBC News she didn’t regret calling it out. “It was breaking a pattern, which is what I would usually do, what I did when I was younger and got bullied,” she said, adding: “No matter what chaos came from it, I’m still happy for me and my personal journey that I said something.”
Recently, SNL UK made headlines by poking fun at the recent Kanye West Wireless Festival controversy as well as Melania Trump.
