Pragmata, a new sci-fi shooter from Capcom, launches later this week (April 17) and is already a hit with critics.
Pragmata was first announced back in 2021 and has been delayed several times over the past five years. It’s now set to launch on Friday for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Pragmata is “a unique, sci-fi action-adventure” game that’ll see you play as Hugh, a member of an ill-fated investigation team, and young android Diana as they “navigate a lunar facility taken over by rogue AI in search of a way to Earth.”
The game currently has a “generally favourable” score on review aggregate site Metacritic, with an average score of 86 out of 100, which makes Pragmata one of the best-reviewed games of 2026 so far with critics praising Diana’s ‘hacking’ mechanic, the fluid combat systems and the dynamic relationship between the two playable characters.
“Its old-school approach to level design and pacing provide a decent foundation for what it does best: heavy, satisfying shooting and a unique real-time puzzle system that deepens its action,” wrote IGN in their review. “Pragmata feels like a game from a simpler time. There’s no live service fluff, no needless bloat, and no sense that Capcom is hopping on a trend. It’s a rock solid action game that isn’t great on length, but delivers little filler, fast combat and some charming story moments,” said VGC.
“With a strong relationship at its core, a striking sci-fi aesthetic, and an addictive puzzle combat loop, Pragmata is the full package. Hopefully [this] marks the beginning of a new blockbuster franchise,” wrote NintendoLife.
“From the start of development, we wanted to make something that set itself apart from traditional shooters,” the game’s director Yonghee Cho said in an interview with PlayStation. “That’s how the idea of combining gunplay with hacking in combat came about. Hacking felt like a natural match for the sci‑fi tone we were aiming for, and as we experimented with ways to make it fun and meaningful in gameplay, it gradually evolved into the puzzle‑based system we have today.”
In other news, Sonic The Hedgehog rock band Crush 40 have announced details of a London gig as part of their ‘Speed Of Sound’ world anniversary tour.
