Ah, the 80s.
I did glance at the Demon Duos show's fifth episode. It was the fourth in a row that was 95+% conversation and exposition. Mile a minute with Jump these days.
Impressions:
I definitely lost the thread of this episode about halfway in. It seemed to mostly be acting out the whole Material Girl thing, focusing on Michica, who's been doing the whole "compensated dating" (aka prostitution) thing. Seems like we're in for a whole materialism episode, right? Then there's a very weird Toy Story segment where a doll of KAngel comes to life and gets thrown in the washer. At this point, it switches gears entirely and becomes the group's origin story, them saving Lollipop from doing that herself, transforming her into her new identity, and her running into Ame, who immediately starts fondling her before they out of nowhere hold their first concert, a very garish neon affair that made my eyes bleed.
Like last week, it was certainly a more structured narrative, but I'm not sure I can say it was a very effective one. I feel like Lollipop running into a girl at the end in the same dark alley was meant to bookend her origin story, but her just telling the kid "cool beans" when the kid told her how bad her life doesn't reflect well on her and undermines the speech a minute before about her friends saving her. Which maybe is the point? They did save her, but they changed her into a superficial product. Which I guess sort of matches the start of the episode, but not so much the middle, and especially not the conversation with Ame. Again, feels confused to me much more than cohesive.
