Leeds Slacker-Pop Newcomers Drury Hill Unveil Debut Single ‘Eye to Eye / River’

Leeds-based slacker-pop quartet Drury Hill have shared their debut single ‘Eye to Eye / River’, out today (5th May) via Private Regcords, marking a significant first step for the fast-emerging four-piece ahead of a packed run of live shows this month.

Originally forming in Nottingham before relocating to Leeds last year, the band have quickly become embedded within the city’s flourishing DIY scene. Working closely with emerging promoter and label Private Regcords, whose roster includes Bathing Suits, Kiosk and Rhiannon Hope, Drury Hill have built early momentum through a busy live schedule, sharing stages with artists such as Dove Ellis, Personal Trainer, Gal Go and two blinks, i love you.

Following a Bandcamp-exclusive EP released last summer, ‘Eye to Eye / River’ arrives as a confident and fully realised introduction to the band’s evolving sound. Recorded with Phil Booth at Nottingham’s JT Soar, known for work with Sleaford Mods, Midnight Rodeo and The Cool Greenhouse, the release captures a shift toward more considered, emotionally resonant songwriting.

The band explain the tracks,

“Eye To Eye and River were written with a new direction in mind. A step back from the nostalgia and humour of the first handful of songs and instead focusing on a more considerate approach to songwriting.

“Eye To Eye touches upon losing the closeness and guidance of family- when physical distance interferes with loving someone. What started as a story about lesbian vikings, River has taken on a few different meanings. Broadly, it’s about the nurturing, compassionate instincts that show when you want to take care of someone. It was the first song we’d written that felt truly belonging to the band”
