YaYa Whatever – “Kickback”

A stylish alt-pop production stirs on YaYa Whatever‘s “Kickback,” propelled by anthemic vocal pushes and catchy guitar/synth synergy. Originally from Chicago and now based in Los Angeles, the artist takes inspiration from “her piano and nomadic spirit” in crafting songs that are simultaneously intimate and infectiously approachable.

“Headed to the kick back, sippin’ Arizona iced tea,” a debonair vocal presence emerges alongside starry-eyed synths, pushing into a vibrant guitar-laden shimmering and escalated vocal punchiness. “It doesn’t have to be forever, it just has to be right now,” the vocals envelop during that replay-inducing chorus, dazzling in its carpe-diem thematic hold and guitar-forward energy. The electro/rock hybrid sound re-emerges in the ensuing verses, while an anthemic vocal power emanates in multiple layers and the re-arrival of the “doesn’t have to be forever” hook. “Kickback” is a hooky alt-pop success from YaYa Whatever.

YaYa Whatever elaborates on the track’s inspirations:

“Growing in Chicago made for an interesting experience as a teen. My friends and I didn’t have cars, so we were always using public transportation to meet with each other. Various sounds from the city are what inspired a lot of this track sonically. Many of us had friends all over the place and I felt like I was always meeting someone new on the weekends or afterschool. That’s what this track is mostly about. Having a special connection with someone that is a distant relative of your friend circle.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
