Yesterday at the Halo World Championship 2025 (an e-sports tournament for Halo multiplayer), Xbox revealed that Halo Studios (formerly 343 Studios) is indeed working on a remake of the original “Halo” game, titled Halo: Campaign Evolved. After prolonged struggles with the engine used on 2021’s “Halo Infinite”, Halo Studios announced last year they were switching over to using Unreal Engine 5 to fast track the next Halo game, and now that next game is confirmed to be a remake (which also helps in speeding up the development cycle).
Here’s the trailer:
Besides the enhanced graphics, here’s some of what’s confirmed in the upcoming remake:

The most stunning part of the reveal is that it’s coming to not just Xbox Series X/S and PC, but also to the PlayStation 5, a sting to many long term Halo fans. Following the costly buying of Activision in 2023, Xbox has been changing their console strategies, focusing on getting as much of their software to go multi-platform as possible. It started with Hi-Fi Rush rumored to be coming to the Nintendo Switch (though instead it eventually ended up on the PS5), followed by Grounded and Sea of Thieves going to the Nintendo and Sony consoles. But with the reveal of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle coming to PlayStation 5, in August of last year, it became apparent that Xbox no longer focusing on exclusives for their own console.
The reveal comes at a lowpoint for loyal Xbox fans, as all of the Xbox Series hardware has seen sharp increases in price, alonside the cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (the massive library of Xbox games available to Subscribers) was recently increased to $30 a month. There’s also the cancellation of the much anticipated remake of Perfect Dark, and the lackluster reception to this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Xbox clearly hopes the remake of the first Halo game will be the turning point in getting Master Chief’s franchise back on track, and setting up Xbox as they prepare to enter next generation (with their next Xbox console anticipated to be coming around 2027).
No release date has been given yet, other than it’s coming in 2026. As it’s timed to be a part of the 25th Anniversary of the original Halo game, odds are it’ll be in the later half of 2026 (the original Halo released in November 2001).
